From Brokenness to Grace: The Journey of John Whaley
John Whaley is the founder of Broken but Graced. He and his wife, Susan, were childhood sweethearts and were together for 42 years before she transitioned to heaven on August 2, 2021. Susan’s two-year battle began with a brain tumor and then stage-four cancer. From the beginning of their journey, their desire was for God to do whatever would bring Him the most glory. God answered that prayer and John journaled all the lessons God taught them and all the ways He graced them through those days. Following her death, God led him to write Broken but Graced which is the story of their journey, the lessons learned, and the ways God glorified Himself.
After the book was published, God began giving John opportunities to walk with people through their brokenness and share the story at churches, on podcasts, and other events. It was at this point that God confirmed that Broken but Graced was more than a book to be read or a story to be told. It was to be a ministry to help Christ-followers thrive in their brokenness.
John has over 40 years of experience in ministry, having served for 21 years as a pastor. He presently serves as the Executive Pioneer for The Rooftop International, a global disciple-making ministry. Over the years, John has had the opportunity to preach throughout the United States and across the globe. He lives in Hickory, North Carolina, and has two children and two grandchildren.
